Against (Intelligent) Machines? On Art in the Times of Artificial Intelligence
Ukazał się specjalny anglojęzyczny numer „Kultury Współczesnej” 2020, nr 5, o którym redaktor naczelny Rafał Koschany pisze tak:
„The presented articles were selected by the Editorial Board among the journal’s best, most valuable, most read, and most quoted papers of the recent years. We sincerely hope that this English-language issue reaches readers beyond our culture and language area and also beyond the Polish institutional context of cultural studies. With this initiative, the quarterly has come full circle: from facilitating the Polish reception of the international context to presenting both the emerging and well-established achievement of Polish cultural studies to the international reader.

W artykule prezentowane są rozważania dotyczące twórczych maszyn wykorzystujących algorytmiczne zasady tworzenia, takie jak algorytmy biologiczne, procedury generatywne, sieci neuronowe, systemy uczące się i głębokie uczenie, ale też narzędzia robotyczne. Jednym z najbardziej wyrazistych przykładów artysty konstruującego autonomiczne maszyny tworzące artefakty artystyczne jest Patrick Tresset i jego Paul. Osią rozważań jest powracające pytanie o to, czy w czasach SI pozycja twórcy pozostaje zarezerwowana wyłącznie dla człowieka, czy też wartości artystyczne i estetyczne można przypisać dziełom twórczych maszyn?
